Tragedy Averted as Private Jet Loses Door Mid-Air, Shortly After Take-Off from Abuja An air crash was averted on Thursday after a CL60 aircraft operated by Triton Aviation lost a door shortly after take-off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, forcing the crew to declare a โ€œMaydayโ€ emergency. The aircraft, registered as T7-SEI, was heading to Lagos when the incident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. UTC, shortly after taking off from Runway 22. According to an incident report, the aircraft was about three nautical miles from the airport, climbing through 3,000 feet, when the crew alerted air traffic controllers that a door had opened in flight. It was directed back to Abuja for an emergency landing, while f+re and medical teams were placed on standby. At about 4:29 p.m. UTC, the crew asked whether controllers could confirm if the door was open. However, an air traffic controller could not establish its condition using binoculars. The aircraft landed safely at about 4:34 p.m. UTC, 14 minutes after the Mayday call. The controller later observed that the door was missing from the fuselage. Meanwhile, a viral video showed the missing door reportedly recovered by farmers on farmland in Abuja. โ€œThis is what we found as we were returning from our farm. It fell from a plane, but we donโ€™t know much about its identity. As I am sending it to you, sir, just check it,โ€ a male voice said in the video. The number of passengers onboard could not be ascertained, while Triton Aviation could not be reached for comments. NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu confirmed the incident but said the agency could not comment because it fell under the purview of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). The NSIB also confirmed the incident. A source said investigators had been deployed to the scene and an official statement would be issued soon.
