🍂 Rules for Love 🍂 by Lexi Vale

📆 out today 📆

A cosy contemporary romance set in London, but not your usual city life story. Sophie sets to work to save a community garden 🌳 only to discover she already knows Lucas, who runs a local business and the community garden. Of course they now need rules so that Sophie can focus on saving the wonderful garden in the city.

I loved Lexi’s first book, Walk This Way, and now Rules for Love is the perfect (interconnected standalone) autumnal romance. Found family 🤗 is one of my all time favourite tropes, and you’ll also find a healthy dose of he falls first (and harder).

I love Lexi’s characterisation, as she always writes perfectly imperfect people. We are all flawed in some way, and at some point we have all made mistakes. I can definitely relate to a harsh exterior that has been built up only to be torn down for love 🧡

Look no further because I have found your perfect cosy autumn 🍂 romance, however I also recommend reading book 1️⃣ first.

Thank you @lexivaleauthor and @netgalley for trusting me again to read your wonderful work 🤎

💬 do you love reading a 🍁seasonal🍁 book❓

I want to tell you about one of the most quietly liberating things I have ever done...
Stopping explaining myself.

Not rudely. Not without care for the people around me. Just releasing the compulsive need to justify every choice, every boundary, every decision that did not fit what someone else expected of me 🥺

Because I used to over explain everything.

Every no came with a paragraph of reasons why. Every boundary came with an apology attached. Every choice that deviated from what was expected came with a detailed explanation designed to make it acceptable to whoever was watching.

And it was exhausting.
But more than exhausting it was a signal.

It was a signal that I did not fully trust my own judgment. That I needed the people around me to agree with my decisions before I could feel okay about making them. That my choices were not quite legitimate until they had been approved by someone outside of myself.

Stopping explaining myself did not happen overnight.

It was a gradual and sometimes uncomfortable practice of sitting in the discomfort of someone not understanding a choice I had made and resisting the urge to immediately fill that discomfort with justification.

And what I found on the other side of it was something I did not expect.
Peace 🥺

The quiet, solid, unshakeable peace of knowing that my choices belong to me. That I do not owe everyone an explanation. That the right people will understand and the ones who do not were not going to be satisfied by any explanation I gave anyway.

You do not owe anyone a paragraph for every decision you make.

No is a complete sentence.

And your life is yours to live without a running commentary 🤍
