STYLING BREAKDOWN: DRESSED WITH A MESSAGE. ✈️
this fit wasn’t just about putting clothes together. it was about making a statement before I even opened my mouth.
the backwards blazer represents corporate disobedience. challenging the expectations of professionalism without asking permission to exist in those spaces.
the tree of locs, wrapped in chains with no uniform pattern, represents unconventional Black expression. not everything about us has to fit into a neat little box to be intentional.
the purse says what shouldn’t have to be said twice: PROTECT BLACK WOMEN.
and the soundtrack? “Oceans” by Jay-Z ft. Frank Ocean. 🌊
“I hope my black skin don’t dirt this white tuxedo”
that lyric, alongside the song’s imagery around Blackness and water, connects to the questions raised in my poem about Nolan Wells and the circumstances surrounding his death. my poem challenges the narrative that he drowned, and every element of this look helps carry that message beyond the words themselves.
the blazer challenges the institution. the hair challenges conformity. the purse demands protection. the poem challenges the narrative.
the clothes weren’t separate from the message. they were part of the delivery.
styling ain’t always about what’s trending or what looks good together. sometimes it’s about using what you wear to say something that needs to be heard.
PJ Come Fly; the whole fit, with intention. ✈️
