Reliance Jio now controls nearly 40 per cent of India’s mobile market, with more than 50 crore connections, as the company heads towards what is being called a historic initial public offering.

The scale of its subscriber base shows how deeply Jio has reached across the country, from large cities to small towns and villages, where millions now depend on it for calls and mobile data.

Jio also reported revenue of almost Rs 1.47 lakh crore for the last year, underlining the financial strength of the business at a time when investors are watching its public market debut closely.

The IPO matters because it will give investors a direct stake in the telecom business that has reshaped mobile connectivity in India. A vast customer base combined with large-scale revenue is likely to be central to how the company is valued once it lists.

With more than half a billion connections, even small shifts in subscriber numbers can have an outsized impact on the wider telecom sector.

Jio’s growth also mirrors the rise of mobile internet in India, where affordable data has made phones a primary way for many people to access information, services and entertainment.

As the listing nears, attention will stay on how Jio balances its dominant market position with continued growth in subscribers and revenue.

That was such an amazing night
