Our bodies and brains are designed to use sunlight as a signal. Less sunlight will impact what you crave, when you feel hungry and what you have energy for —- this time of year, are you feeling it?
Here are some tips I share with patients as we conduct experiments to optimize their weight health:
1) Get outside — regardless of the weather and as much as you can, safely.
2) Use light therapies — but not in the dark. It’s ok to use them as the sun comes up or sets but resist the urge to give yourself doses of “daylight” when outside is nightlight.
3) Assess cravings — are they fatigue, temperature or emotionally driven? If yes, which one(s)? How can you change your food choices to be more delicious to you and balanced to reduce cravings?
4) Optimize digestion - always. It’s the way your body take resources received and translates them into usable ones
5) Consistent bedtime - skip the late afternoon nap or couch TV time because it’s dark and you are tired or want to be cozy and instead maintain a better bedtime. #sleep #weighthealth #cravings #daylight #daylightsavings
