❀༉ Fifty-two years ago today, Killer Queen / Flick of the Wrist was released in the UK as a double A-side single. Written by Freddie for Sheer Heart Attack, Killer Queen reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 12 in the US, introducing Queen to a whole new audience.

❀༉ Elegant, theatrical, and wonderfully cheeky, this song has so much of Freddie’s personality woven into it. The harmonies, Brian’s guitar, and the way Freddie delivers every line…so much detail tucked into three minutes.

Freddie explained: “The words came first, and the sophisticated style I wanted to put across came first.”

❀༉ In her book, Mary Austin remembers Freddie writing Killer Queen at the piano, playing a few chords, pausing to write, then returning to them. After years of trying to establish himself, she felt he was beginning to trust his own abilities. She remembers a lighter, happier Freddie during this period…skipping rather than walking, suggesting friends come for dinner, and talking about plans for tomorrow.

❀༉ Mary also shares a lovely champagne memory. Before an EMI executive and his girlfriend visited their flat, she bought a bottle of Moët & Chandon. Freddie worried one bottle wouldn’t be enough, then forgot to chill it, so it was served warm! Mary went without a glass, worried there wouldn’t be enough to go around. She doesn’t know whether that bottle inspired the lyric, but I love hearing this little memory alongside it. 🥂

❀༉ As the song found its audience, Mary remembers his relief and excitement. Watching him on Top of the Pops, she saw him stepping into a more confident stage persona…prepared, energised, and completely in control.

Brian later called Killer Queen “the turning point.” Fifty-two years later, we’re still enjoying every delicious little detail.

Honestly, same, Cillian 😴

The Oscar-winning actor is a big believer in getting his beauty sleep - and he's not afraid to say it.

Speaking to CBS' 60 Minutes in 2024, Murphy explained why he wasn't always keen on dinner plans with his Oppenheimer co-stars after Matt Damon jokingly called him the 'worst dinner companion imaginable'. Murphy said keeping up with his lines and getting enough sleep took priority while filming.

The official website of the Norwegian Royal Family has been updated following the end of the Court’s mourning period.

The Royal House now consists of King Haakon, Queen Mette-Marit and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Queen Sonja has been moved to the “Other Royal Family” section, alongside Prince Sverre Magnus and Princess Märtha Louise.

What do you think about this change?

Grand rising! 💛 My prayer today is that Yahweh continues to bless us all with good health, increasing wealth, and opportunities to become better versions of ourselves. May any negativity in our hearts give way to love, understanding, and a genuine desire to see others do well. Wishing you a peaceful day filled with many blessings.
When you see me lying in the sun, know that it means more to me than simply enjoying the warmth. It’s my time to connect with Yahweh, reflect, and let the light within me shine outward. There’s a deeper purpose behind these peaceful moments. Blessed Sunday 🧡
