“I opened the king’s door as if I had done it a thousand times, as if it were my own, and entered, like a thread through the eye of a needle”
a reminder that history is told, in part, through whispers behind closed doors, rumors passed from person to person, and stories written down (whether true or not).
may we feed the king is told in two parts: first, in the present day, through the eyes of a troubled curator tasked with a commission; and second, through the eyes of the reluctant medieval king with whom she becomes infatuated.
i loved this quirky little novel. rebecca perry’s prose was beautiful and easy to digest, both literally and figuratively, thanks to her absolutely mouthwatering, wildly specific descriptions of the various royal feasts laid out on the page.
some readers might be frustrated that perry doesn’t hold your hand or fill in all the blanks. that was fine by me. i enjoyed filling them in all on my own and creating my own version of history.
