We traveled long and far to get to Amantani Island on Lake Titikaka. WE ARE OUT THERE! We hiked to the top to watch an amazing sunset (and get some cell service since we found out when we got out here that there was no WiFi!) Today we took a boat and went to visit the Uros people who live on floating island in the lake. They showed us how they make the island and how they have to keep adding reeds so that the water doesn’t come through. These indigenous cultures are still living completely off the land and natural resources fishing, hunting birds, eating duck eggs, drinking the lake water. When I asked why they don’t move to the land, they said they liked to be free. They don’t pay taxes and nobody bothers them. They trade for what they need and get some money from tourism by selling their crafts. Pretty amazing! We are out tomorrow but Peru, I will never forget you! Thank you for an experience of a lifetime!
