Singapore is investigating companies potentially responsible for forest and peatland fires in Indonesia that have contributed to cross-border haze, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said on Thursday (October 15). On Friday (October 16), Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) issued preventive measure notices to seven companies in Indonesia after identifying indications that fires on their land may have contributed to the haze affecting Singapore. The companies were instructed to take preventive measures, including deploying firefighting personnel, stopping burning activities, and submitting action plans to prevent further fires. Singapore also said it may take enforcement action against companies found responsible for causing transboundary haze under its Transboundary Haze Pollution Act.
