In November 2016, a road near Hakata Station in Fukuoka, Japan, suddenly collapsed into a sinkhole roughly 30 metres long, 27 metres wide and 15 metres deep. No one was injured, but the collapse swallowed a major intersection and damaged the utilities beneath it.
Workers filled the hole with a soil and cement mixture, repaired the buried utilities and rebuilt the road. It reopened just days after the collapse.
