The French government faces a fresh crisis after police on Saturday struggled to contain attacks on businesses and public buildings, including city halls and police stations, in cities from Marseille to Paris, Bordeaux and Lyon. Thousands of black-clad and masked rioters hijacked broader peaceful protests by students and people marching nationwide against the high cost of living. An estimated 550,000 demonstrators are estimated to have turned out overall. A record number of people were arrested in Paris and some 500 police officers and firefighters were injured. The rioting comes six months ahead of a highly uncertain election to succeed President Emmanuel Macron, piling pressure on the government, which has been grappling with student protests over conditions in high schools while trying to pass a budget for next year in the face of bond market jitters about France’s ability to rein in its deficit. Tap the link in our bio for the latest updates. Credits: Reuters (1), Julien Mattia/Le Pictorium/Zuma/dpa (2), Kiran Ridley / AFP via Getty Images (3), Thibaud Moritz/AFP/dpa (4), Thibaud Moritz / AFP via Getty Images (5), Geoffroy Van Der Hasselt/AFP/Getty Images (6), Carl Court/Getty Images (7 & 8), Guillaume Saligot / AFP via Getty Images (9), Aruallan / Hans Lucas / AFP via Getty Images (10)
Companies are always looking for new ways to save money — but too often, those savings come at the expense of the people doing the work. Record profits can arrive alongside layoffs, frozen wages, reduced benefits, and employees being expected to accomplish more with fewer resources. Meanwhile, executives may receive massive bonuses for successfully “cutting costs” and improving efficiency. As prices continue climbing, many workers find their paychecks struggling to keep pace with everyday expenses. The company’s quarterly numbers might look better than ever, while the people helping produce those results barely feel the benefit. When corporate success keeps reaching new highs but workers aren’t sharing in the gains, it raises a simple question: who is all that efficiency really benefiting? - #CorporateGreed #corporateamerica #ceo #profit #moneymindset #unitedstates
