Students at Lincoln University are suing Missouri for $549 million, and the law is on their side.

Seven current students and alumni say the state has underfunded the HBCU for decades, violating a federal law from 1890 that requires "just and equitable" funding for Black land-grant universities. The suit seeks nearly $224 million in withheld funds plus interest, but attorneys say the real goal is a consent decree that guarantees Lincoln gets funded on par with the University of Missouri every year going forward.

A 2023 federal finding showed 16 states underfunded their land-grant HBCUs by more than $12 billion. If this case succeeds, it could change what fair funding looks like for HBCUs everywhere.

Some places become part of your story. Some dogs become part of every place you go. 🇮🇸

The @retreat.bluelagoon in Iceland is probably the most magical hotel I’ve ever had the opportunity to stay in. The quiet, the architecture, the pale blue water surrounded by volcanic rock. One of those places that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply be.

That’s what soulful travel means to me. Places that stay with you long after you’ve come home, and memories made with those you carry in your heart.

And of course, Scout came along too. Even in places he never got to visit, he’s still part of my memories. I also had the opportunity to plant a tree in his honor while visiting. I hope to return someday to see how big it’s grown.

October is his heavenly birthday month, so you’ll see a little more of him here as I share stories and little reminders of the boy who started it all. It’s one way I can keep honoring him and the love he brought into my life.

I used to share our travels with #scouthugsaroundtheworld. His hugs look a little different these days, but I’m still bringing a little piece of him wherever I go.

Japan and Thailand are coming up soon, with Alaska next year. Scout’s @littlefeltedfriends and Archie’s feltie friend will come along, so I’ll have a little piece of both my boys on each adventure.

Have you been to Iceland, or is it on your wish list?

Send this to someone you’d love to experience this place with.
