Well if you’ve ever met Dare and wondered what is going on in that strange head of his…. we might finally have an answer!
After lots of testing, Dare is suspected to have tethered cord syndrome and is scheduled for surgery in Canada this November! Tethered cord syndrome (TCS), in simple terms, is when the spinal cord becomes adhered to the vertebral column. This condition is often painful, and the condition can range from sharp shooting pains to numbness of the pelvic limbs and lower back. Truth is/was also a suspect but his MRI study was normal (which can occur in dogs with TCS), we are going to continue focusing on his previously diagnosed hip dysplasia for the time being. Between both dogs in the span of 4 weeks they racked up over $12k in vet bills this summer, both receiving MRIs in addition to Truth’s numerous radiographs and joint injections. Dare’s surgery is estimated to be $8-12k.
I haven’t posted much here about school, but I am in my third year of vet school now! While I am excited to start junior surgeries this year and soon clinical rotations, this means my spare change and time is next to none. In an attempt to catch back up financially from previous bills, and to be ready to cover Dare’s surgery, I have set up a couple fundraising options. As much as I wanted to handle this independently, vet school has already stretched me financially.
1. Merchandise store! https://truthordare.printify.me/
Let me know if you are interested in different designs/colors/products, I can easily add them. Currently there are t-shirts, hoodies, hats, stickers, mugs, and puzzles! I plan to add a couple more designs over the next months (hopefully including a tethered cord themed design that I am excited about).
2. GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/e7b84f6cd
3. If you prefer to donate directly, my Venmo is @ madsnakez31 and features a toothy dare photo. I can also accept Zelle or PayPal (PM for information).
Thanks for reading and if you want to know more about either dog, please reach out! I am happy to share either of their stories, updates, and the medical/behavioral battles we have been facing.
