It’s Navratri in India, a time when we worship Shakti, the sacred feminine, as divine. 🙏🏽 Yet I often wonder how much of that reverence translates into the way we treat the women around us. As women, we go through so much in one lifetime. From puberty to hormonal changes, childbirth for some, menopause, and all the challenges that come with every stage of life. And through it all, we’re expected to just keep going, often without much empathy or understanding. I truly believe that one of the most healing things for a woman is to feel seen, heard, understood and supported. There is tremendous healing in sisterhood. Yet so often, women are judged, sometimes most harshly by other women. Imagine if we replaced that judgment and competition with compassion. If we genuinely celebrated another woman’s beauty, strength, choices and successes without feeling diminished ourselves. How much healing could we create for one another? So this Navratri, let’s honour Shakti not just in the goddess we worship, but in every woman around us. Send this to a woman you admire. 🇺🇸 William Marshall “Bill” Beckmann died on, April 29 1990, at St. John’s Hospice in Lakewood, Colorado, following an extended illness with AIDS. He was 29 years old. Bill was born in Denver on 14 July 1960. He graduated from Platte Canyon High School in 1978, where he was active in school and community activities, particularly local melodrama theatre. An artist, Bill designed the original “Bailey Day” logo located at the Entriken Cabin in Bailey, and painted the Husky logo in the old Platte Canyon High School gymnasium. Bill attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and graduated from the University of Denver in 1982. Before his illness, he worked in Human Resources at the Life Insurance Company of Denver. Doug Lasky told @theaidsmemorial, “I met Bill when we both sang with the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. We lived two blocks away from each other. He was incredibly kind and handsome. He was always looking for love (as we all were at that age). His specialty was cooking Chicken Veronique in his tiny apartment for a first date. One night his date didn’t show up so he called me and I got to experience the special meal (without the romantic dessert). I remember him in hospice. All that youthful joy and beauty wasting away. I spoke at his memorial service. I’m now 70 years old and I think of him often and how he touched my life.” #whatisrememberedlives
