Full Marathon — Ten Years Later, Still Stupid Enough
Somewhere between “maybe I’ll do the 4-minute piece later” and 10pm, I decided a full marathon on the slides sounded like a good idea.
42,195m — 3:00:19.4
2:08.2/500m
166W average
24 spm
No marathon-specific training. Started at 10pm after work and family stuff, finished just after 1am.
The hands were heading for blisters, the upper back was cooked, the mat and slide trays were soaked, and at one point I actually got off the erg to shut the shed door properly so the 2:14 split wasn’t quite the collapse it looks like 😆
What really got me through was a combination of stupidness, sheer bloody-mindedness and knowing Adam would probably ask me in the morning:
“Did you finish it?”
I really didn’t want the answer to be no.
Almost ten years since my last full marathon too.
