Stefan Effenberg 🇩🇪, Fernando Redondo 🇦🇷, Roy Keane 🇮🇪, Juan Sebastián Verón 🇦🇷, Edgar Davids 🇳🇱, Patrick Vieira 🇫🇷 or Demetrio Albertini 🇮🇹?

This was an era when central midfielders didn’t all look or play the same. Every great team seemed to have its own midfield general — a player who gave the side rhythm, aggression, personality or control. ⚽🔥

Effenberg 🇩🇪 was the commanding presence of Bayern Munich 🇩🇪, demanding the ball and setting the emotional tone. Redondo 🇦🇷 gave Real Madrid 🇪🇸 elegance, intelligence and that effortless ability to escape pressure.

Keane 🇮🇪 was the heartbeat of Manchester United 🏴 — relentless, competitive and built for the biggest matches. Verón 🇦🇷 gave Parma 🇮🇹 technique, range of passing and creativity from deeper positions.

Davids 🇳🇱 brought energy and bite to Juventus 🇮🇹, Vieira 🇫🇷 became the physical and technical leader of Arsenal 🏴, while Albertini 🇮🇹 represented the composure and tactical intelligence of that great Milan 🇮🇹 midfield tradition.

Seven midfield legends. Seven completely different styles. That’s part of what made late-90s and early-2000s football so memorable.

WHICH TWO WOULD CONTROL THE MIDFIELD FOR YOUR TEAM? 👇

@neowsibora joins the Opposition march today: An important symbolic message as opposition leaders and student activists come together for today's march to the Supreme Court, demanding accountability from the Election Commission.

What does this show of unity signal?

Sreenivasan Jain reports from the ground as part of Newslaundry's special coverage of the Opposition march.

Something happened recently that I wasn’t fully prepared for and I want to talk about it honestly 🤍

When we found out about our little miracle I expected to feel pure uncomplicated joy. And the joy was absolutely there, bigger and more beautiful than anything I have ever felt 💫

But so was the fear. Sitting right alongside it. Not replacing the joy, not cancelling it out, just there. Quietly. Persistently. In the same breath as every beautiful feeling I was experiencing 🥺

And for a moment I felt guilty about that. Like the fear somehow meant I wasn’t grateful enough, wasn’t present enough, wasn’t doing this right 🤍

But here is what I have come to understand through my own journey and through sitting with so many women in their most vulnerable moments 💫

You are allowed to feel two completely opposite things at the same time. Joy and fear. Hope and grief. Excitement and uncertainty. They are not mutually exclusive and feeling one does not cancel out the other 🥺

Becoming a mother after loss is joy and grief in the same heartbeat. Leaving something that no longer serves you is freedom and sadness at once. Stepping into a new version of yourself is excitement and mourning simultaneously 🤍

And none of that is weakness 💫

That is what it means to be fully, completely, beautifully human 🥺

So if you are feeling things that seem like they shouldn’t exist alongside each other, give yourself full permission to hold all of it. You do not have to perform simplicity when your experience is anything but simple 🤍

Feel it all. Every contradictory, complex, messy, real layer of it 💫

That is not you doing life wrong. That is you doing life honestly. And honest is always, always enough 🥺🤍
