‘I feel like I can feel my pupils dilating, looking at it. It seems almost as though it’s pulsating.’ In this video, author, broadcaster and columnist Emma Dabiri (@emmadabiri) reflects on her favourite discovery at Frieze Masters.
Presented by DAG, Biren De’s ‘January ’92’ (1992) features the artist’s distinctive use of geometric patterns and tantric symbolism, radiating an ‘internal luminosity.’
‘It seems to speak very closely to a lot of ideas that I’m thinking about at the moment,’ says Dabiri, whose current publishing venture, ‘Born to Be Blue’, explores colour and the relationship between celestial and physical bodies.

Born to be Blue looks like an amazing book, my own work as an artist and archetypal astrologer revolves around celestial bodies too, so this is speaking to me, can't wait to read it.

A Biren De at Masters is a good call. The glow in January 92 is all gradation, no single bright pigment, which is why it reads as lit from inside.
