ACHING INERTIA (A.I.)
The never ending search for convenience conceals a harsh truth: what we think is simplifying our lives in the present, may actually be complicating our future...
We are feeding machines with insights into our own behaviours and identities, handing them the keys to our internal world, simultaneously losing touch with it ourselves. We are sacrificing humanity in exchange for “evolution”, sacrificing depth in exchange for convenience. The threat here is not just reliance, but the fusion of human and machine; the slow sneaky silent erosion of our ability to think deeply, think critically and think independently.
“If you use AI to write for you, how do you avoid your voice from fading away? If you use AI to think for you, are you giving yourself choices? If you use AI to make decisions for you, how do you avoid not losing your ability to discern or reflect?”
- Sol Rashidi
Now is the time to remind ourselves of what it means to be human, what it means to be imperfect, to have access to a plethora of debilitating or euphoric emotions. The threats of AI are ever present, but they serve as a reminder to return to our humanity; embracing our emotions, engaging with our thoughts and the experience of consciousness.
Inspired by the works of HR Giger, who fuses organic human anatomy with cold industrial machinery, reminding us of the complexity of consciousness, the immensity of fear and the inevitability of decay.
In the face of fear, we must continue to yearn for depth and comprehension, embracing it as an incentive to return to love rather than a force that overshadows it.
