POSTS STORIES REELS

HOPE
An experimental collection offering a dark and playful commentary on the different forms that violence can take. From performance to the hypocrisy of western states 'bringing' peace with bombs, violence is materialised into wearable items, embedded within textiles in a fetishistic manner.
.
Strict silhouettes have an inappropriate undertone, aggressive ones are pushed to caricature. Military attire is reduced to an uncanny strap-on harness, camouflage nets are lasercut in latex, the male body becomes a parody of itself, monstrously muscular.
.
The narrative of violence is inverted: a long bullet is stuck in a red glove, as if a simple hand had stopped it; a car bumper sits on the bare skin of the shoulder, speared by the protesting body it aimed to destroy.
.
While focusing on natural fibers, this collection is a technical exploration of the versatility of rubber. Its usage is sometimes abundant, sometimes invisible, only used for its properties such as its ability to maintain wrinkles, control stains, highlight scratches and marks, or its UV light sensitivity.
.
The collection is surrounded by an introduction video with an original recording of Le Silence de L’Evangile from Paul Eluard, followed by an extended version of Silvera from Gojira as a soundtrack.

A DEEP SOUND IS ROLLING AROUND THE ROOM. LOUDER, LOUDER, THE WALLS ARE VIBRATING. SCREAMS OF PROTESTS ARE MAKING THEIR WAY OUT WITHIN THAT ROAR. ON SCREEN, WE SEE CHAOS; EXTREMES IN ACTION, PREACHING THEIR HATE. LOUDER, LOUDER, THE WALLS ARE VIBRATING.
SUDDENLY, A GUNSHOT. ONLY THE LARSEN STAYS. THE SCREEN BECOMES WHITE AND BRIGHTER AND BLINDING. A HAND RISES, TO CONFRONT THE OPPRESSION. DRESSED IN A LEATHER GLOVE, SHE TACKLES THE BULLET THAT PIERCES THE LAMB SKIN, HER PALM, HER FLESH. IT GOT STUCK FOREVER, PEEKING OUT THROUGH HER BACK.
NOW THE HAND BECOMES A CLOSED FIST. SILVERA (GOJIRA) BURSTS INTO THE ROOM.
ENTER THE CREATURES. THEY ARE DRESSED IN HYBRID TEXTILES OF WOOL, LATEX, COTTON, METAL. THEY ARE WEARING PERFORMANCE, SURRENDER, HYPOCRISY AND WAR. SILHOUETTES AMIDST DIGITAL AND PHYSICAL SPACES; WEARING THEIR SCARS AS ARMOUR, THEIR EXISTENCE AS RESISTANCE.

Part of the Lichting process is the workshop how to present your collection and take your pitch to the next level for the international jury meeting Sept 1st.

For the 10 finalists it was also the first time they met, saw each other’s collection / portfolio’s and could express their story to each other.

I'm currently writing a research paper about how far-right groups use clothing to assert social power in the public space.
If you want to test your knowledge about european and north american far-right, click the link in bio ✨️
Taking 5 minutes of your time to fill my survey helps me a lot, I appreciate it 🙏
