CHEMO DIARY ✈️ | WEEK 2

If week one was a rough flight, week two has been more of a battle against strong winds. 🛬

This week has included some pretty horrible gastrointestinal issues, to the point where the hospital wanted to admit me. Unfortunately, with a lack of available hospital beds, that wasn’t possible, so I was sent home to try and manage things myself.

With mixed success so far, if I’m being honest. 🤦‍♂️

Frustratingly my 83 year old granny had managed to get down to visit for a couple of days, and I spent almost the entire time at hospital.

It’s not exactly easy trying to manage some side effects at home when you’re already dealing with the exhaustion and everything else that comes with chemotherapy. There’s only so much you can do, and sometimes your body has other plans entirely.

It’s another reminder that this journey isn’t simply about turning up for treatment and getting on with life. The side effects can be brutal, unpredictable and completely exhausting. Some days, just getting through the basics feels like a challenge in itself, even when your regularly reminded that you “look well”.

Thinking ahead to this week - I’m spending a few days at Heathrow. I am grateful to Mikey for arranging a visit to Heathrow Tower, and to Perry for letting me spend a shift dispatching with him. Thank you both. It comes against a backdrop of expecting my termination of employment to be issued any day, and managing some personal issues. My visit to Leeds Bradford was postponed, and will happen in a couple of weeks, all being well.

Here’s hoping week three offers a slightly calmer ride 🤞

No laughing at my hospital attire either…. 🤣🤣
