New country, new roads, new adventures! After landing in Sumatra, I grabbed a motorbike, strapped on my helmet and hit the road. No better way to start exploring a new place than on two wheels, with the freedom to stop wherever something catches your eye.

First destination: Bukit Lawang, deep in the jungle heart of Sumatra. Wild roads, tropical landscapes and orangutans ahead. Let the adventure begin!

Bukit Lawang is a small jungle village on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the best places in the world to see wild orangutans. The area is part of the Leuser Ecosystem, a vast rainforest home to orangutans, elephants, tigers and rhinos.

💡 Pro Tip
The ride from Medan to Bukit Lawang takes roughly 3–4 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Take it easy on the motorbike, watch out for potholes and keep some cash handy for small shops and fuel stops. If you're planning to trek in the jungle, arrange a licensed local guide in Bukit Lawang.
