A fast, hollow right-hander with plenty of punch. Bommie is one of the standout breaks around @puriasuresort when the swell lines up.

Quick takeoffs, barreling sections, and walls that open up for powerful turns. Are you going for the tube or carving your way down the line?

🇮🇩 Mount Sibayak, North Sumatra
October 2025

Straight from the jungles of Bukit Lawang to a completely different adventure! 🌋 We drove to Mount Sibayak, where our friends and local guides from @boraspati were waiting for us.

The next morning, we were up ridiculously early and heading into the darkness towards the summit. Watching the landscape change as we climbed into the volcanic terrain was a pretty epic way to start the day.

Mountains, jungle, volcanoes… Sumatra really has it all!

📍 Local Info

Mount Sibayak is an active volcano near Berastagi in North Sumatra, standing around 2,212 metres above sea level. The summit is famous for its steaming fumaroles, sulfur deposits and incredible sunrise views over the Karo Highlands. On a clear morning, you can also spot Mount Sinabung in the distance.

Unlike some of Indonesia’s bigger volcano treks, Sibayak can be climbed in a few hours, making it a popular sunrise adventure.

💡 Pro Tip

Start before sunrise for the best chance of clear views, and bring a headlamp, warm layers, grippy shoes and water. It gets surprisingly cold up there before dawn! Stay well away from steaming vents, as volcanic gases can be dangerous. After the hike, check out the natural hot springs around Berastagi for a well-earned soak.

🇮🇩 Indonesia — Sumatra
October 2025

New country, new roads, new adventures! After landing in Sumatra, I grabbed a motorbike, strapped on my helmet and hit the road. No better way to start exploring a new place than on two wheels, with the freedom to stop wherever something catches your eye.

First destination: Bukit Lawang, deep in the jungle heart of Sumatra. Wild roads, tropical landscapes and orangutans ahead. Let the adventure begin!

📍 Local Info
Bukit Lawang is a small jungle village on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the best places in the world to see wild orangutans. The area is part of the Leuser Ecosystem, a vast rainforest home to orangutans, elephants, tigers and rhinos.

💡 Pro Tip
The ride from Medan to Bukit Lawang takes roughly 3–4 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Take it easy on the motorbike, watch out for potholes and keep some cash handy for small shops and fuel stops. If you're planning to trek in the jungle, arrange a licensed local guide in Bukit Lawang.
