For a bunch of “winners” we certainly don’t look very happy here.
It’s a funny thing for a person to look back at being a Best New Artist when you are 30 long, odd years down the track.
I miss MTV. I miss easier days than these. I miss not waking up on a daily basis to bad news. I miss my mum and dad. I miss my animals. I miss my grandma. I miss a pain free body. I miss my old home. I miss my old friends. I miss dancing in clubs. I miss being on the swim team. I miss my ballet classes, piano lessons, choir practice and orchestra rehearsals. I miss performing in plays and in musicals. I miss Inverlieth swing park and Edinburgh Botanical Gardens. I miss having zero responsibilities. I miss when my parents gave me pocket money and I never had to worry about fixing things..
I miss being innocent and I miss feeling free.
These are some of the things I think about when I look at this photograph.
But I do NOT, not even for a split second, miss being young.

lil work 🎬 lil play 🤪

BASIC INCOME FOR THE ARTS: MAJOR UPDATE

The Government has secured €34.4 million in Budget 2027 to fully fund the new Basic Income for the Arts scheme.

Here’s what you need to know:

2,000 professional artists will receive €325 per week for three years.

Up to 750 successful applicants will be notified via email from Thursday, 15 October.

All applicants will receive a status update this week.

Just over 10,000 applications were received.

Payments will be made monthly at €1,413.21.

Payments beginning in 2026 will be backdated to September; those beginning in 2027 will be paid from or backdated to January.

This marks a significant milestone for artists in Ireland, establishing a long-term scheme built on the evidence and success of the Basic Income for the Arts Pilot.

Congratulations to @patrickodonovan_td and his department on their work towards this, and in particular former minister Catherine Martin for starting the scheme.

Keep an eye on your email for updates from the Department.
