Last season, @kahtoola sent me a pair of their MICROspikes GHOST to test, and I can tell you they’re SO great. I really enjoyed using them.

While keeping the 12 stainless steel spikes for grip on ice, the GHOST design replaces the traditional steel chains that connect the spikes underfoot with a lightweight thermoplastic connective framework—which makes the GHOSTs overall smaller, more packable, and impressively light.

But what stood out to me the most, actually, was how much easier they are to take on and off than other spike designs. During shoulder season, when I was repeatedly switching between bare trail and ice and my fingers were cold, I found less wrestling with gear was a huge help.

So: Lightweight, easy to use, a pleasure to hike in. GHOSTs get a very enthusiastic recommendation from me.
