✧There’s something about the way Freddie speaks to an audience during this song that makes it feel as though it’s just the two of you in a room. Even watching all these years later, that closeness still reaches you.

✧Hearing everyone sing back to him, then hearing him say, “That was absolutely perfect,” touched me so much when I watched this again. I kept thinking about the people who were there. How beautiful to have sung his song to him, to have watched him listening, and then to have heard his voice return to yours. I wonder what this song feels like to them now, with that memory held inside it.

✧And then I think about how many people have carried their love for him through decades of their lives. A song you’ve heard a thousand times can suddenly mean something different. You discover a little detail about him, hear someone else’s memory, or revisit a performance like this, and somehow there’s another reason to love him. The love stays, but it keeps finding room to grow.

✧I wonder whether, while he was writing and creating, he ever imagined how far those songs would travel, or how much company they would give people he would never meet. They’ve brought so much love and peace into my own life, and brought me to people I might never otherwise have known.

✧A thread of love that started with him, reaching into all our different lives and helping us find one another. Some were there singing back to him that night. Some of us only came to him much later. And here we all are, still listening, still finding something that touches us, still loving him. 🤍
