I’ve been working on a new top pattern, and the first version was pretty good. But I just couldn’t leave it alone. I started tweaking and tweaking, and somewhere along the way became fixated on every possible adjustment I could make to achieve sleeve perfection. I tried simplifying it, because I think the best design solutions are often the simplest, but that wasn’t better. Then I went in the opposite direction, exploring more traditional and technical pattern cutting methods, before eventually circling back to almost where I started. Six samples to discover that the first version was nearly there all along. But I don’t think the other five were a waste of time. Sometimes you need to try all the options to understand why something works… and to know when to leave it alone.
Sometimes God allows a door to close because continuing through it would keep us from experiencing what He has prepared ahead. We may not understand the loss, the disappointment, or the change when it happens, but our limited perspective does not change His perfect knowledge of our future. Our responsibility is to trust Him enough to keep walking. God is able to use yesterday’s disappointments as preparation for tomorrow’s opportunities. Do not allow a closed door to convince you that your best days are behind you. Remain obedient, stay prayerful, and watch for the new thing God may already be bringing forth.
