Christopher Hitchens challenges one of the most troubling ideas in Christianity: that a loving God could create a system of eternal punishment for those who fail to love or believe in him.
Think about the moral question behind this argument. If a human being threatened someone with endless torture unless they loved him in return, would we call that love?
The problem becomes even more difficult if God is described as all-knowing. If God knows what evidence would convince every person, why would sincere nonbelief deserve eternal punishment?
Believers disagree about the nature of hell, whether it is eternal, and who experiences it. But the underlying question remains: can punishment without end ever be proportionate to a finite human life?
A belief being ancient or sacred doesn't place it beyond moral examination. If we value compassion and justice, shouldn't we apply those standards to the gods we are asked to worship, too?
Would you consider a God worthy of worship if disbelief could result in eternal punishment?

the Bible never says God created a hell. Only weak minded hate filled people people who fall for propaganda believe he did. 👍

This is what happens when you read the Bible like it’s a book your master the devil will always be there to twist it

If the hell concept is real, then God is the embodiment of evil.

It's doubtful but possible that Hitchens in his final days changed his mind.

CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS WAS ATTACKING A FALSE RELIGIOUS TEACHING, NOT WHAT THE BIBLE ACTUALLY SAYS! Jehovah God never created a place where people are tortured in fire for eternity. That doctrine misrepresents God's love and justice. Romans 6:23 says, “The wages sin pays is death,” NOT eternal torture. Ecclesiastes 9:5 says, “The dead know nothing at all.” Ezekiel 18:4 says, “The soul who sins is the one who will die.” Jeremiah 7:31 shows that burning children in fire was something Jehovah never commanded and that had never even come into His heart. Revelation 20:14 identifies the lake of fire as “the second death,” symbolizing permanent destruction, not endless suffering. Jehovah is a God of love and justice, not a sadistic torturer! The problem is not what Jehovah teaches. The problem is what religions have falsely taught about Him! Before criticizing the God of the Bible, make sure you are criticizing what the Bible actually teaches, not a doctrine imposed upon it by religious traditions.

He’ll exist where God isn’t. Go there or don’t go to there.

Errrmm.. actually.. 🤓 god doesn't care if you betrayed him. He'll only guarantee hell if the ones you violate is other humans.

I’m not practicing Christian but this statement is false in context. The fear of hell exists as motivation to live a moral life which benefits the individual and society as a whole, humans being prone to moral fault, motivation is required. It’s why the criminal system exists.
