NICOSIA โ€” The Cyprus Peace and Solidarity Movement has called on the European Commission to intervene over settlement and demographic alteration in the occupied areas of Cyprus. The movement submitted a letter in Brussels on October 6 during meetings with Commission representatives. According to a written statement by ลžener Elcil, ฤฐzzet ฤฐzcan, and Murat Kanatlฤฑ, the letter was addressed to European Commission Executive Vice President Raffaele Fitto. The movement argues that Turkeyโ€™s policies of settlement, assimilation, and integration threaten the survival of the Turkish Cypriot community and alter its political will. It also criticizes the Republic of Cyprus for failing to bring cases concerning settlement before international courts.
