On this day, 29 October 1948, a massacre by the Israeli army took place in the Palestinian village of Al-Dawayima killing hundreds of people (content note: physical and sexual violence). One Israeli soldier, S Kaplan, wrote a letter to a newspaper describing what happened: “There was no battle and no resistance (and no Egyptians). The first conquerors killed from 80 to 100 [male] Arabs, women and children. They killed the children by smashing their skulls with sticks. There was not a home without its dead... Arab men and women who remained in the village were shut into houses without food or water. Then came sappers to blow up houses. One commander ordered a sapper to put two old Arab women into the particular house that was going to be blown up with them inside. The sapper refused, saying he took orders only from his commander. So the commander ordered his soldiers to shut the women in, and the horror was perpetrated. One soldier boasted that he had raped an Arab woman and then shot her. Another Arab woman who was carrying a newborn baby was made to clean the courtyard, where the soldiers eat. She did that service for a day or two, and in the end she and her baby were shot.” The newspaper did not publish the letter. Around 60 people were murdered in the local mosque, most of them elders, and 85 people who sought refuge in the nearby cave of Iraq al-Zagh were also murdered there – including women and children. Estimates of casualties range from 200 up to 500-1000, according to the US consul. After the massacre, the surviving residents of the village, which previously numbered around 3700, fled as refugees in the West Bank and Jordan. A few years after the massacre, the Israeli village of Amatzya was established over a portion of the ruins of al-Dawayima. TRICK OR TREAT?! 👻 Halloween is actually a relatively new tradition here in Sweden. At least the American version of it! In the US, people obviously go ALL IN! 🇺🇸😂 Entire neighborhoods turn into horror movies, with gigantic spiders, life-sized skeletons, tombstones on front lawns, fog machines, and decorations that probably cost more than the average Swede earns in a month! And here in Sweden? 🇸🇪 We put a pumpkin from the grocery store on our doorstep, light a little candle, and immediately start wondering if we’ve gone a bit overboard. 😂 Because God forbid the neighbors might think we’re getting a little too excited about something! But things are actually changing! Every year, more pumpkins, cobwebs, and skeletons appear in Swedish neighborhoods. Kids run around shouting “TRICK OR TREAT!” while we adults have finally found a socially acceptable excuse to dress up, party, and look completely ridiculous! 😂👻 Then, of course, we have our own beautiful tradition, All Saints’ Day. ❤️🕯️ A peaceful holiday when we visit cemeteries, light candles, and remember loved ones who are no longer with us. It’s a wonderful tradition that deserves to be preserved. Two completely different ways of marking this time of year. One filled with peace, reflection, and candlelight. The other with bloody zombies, plastic spiders, and grown adults running around dressed as devils. 😂 I honestly think we need a little more of the second one! Because we’re now entering that absolutely WONDERFUL time of year in Sweden when the sun rises just as you arrive at work and disappears before you’ve even had time to think about lunch. 🌧️🥶 Everything is grey, wet, cold, and dark. Your car is dirty five minutes after washing it! Personally, I’m already counting down the days until I can trade the November darkness, winter jackets, and freezing slush for palm trees, sunshine, and 30°C in Thailand! 🌴☀️ BIG THANK’S TO; @liteblox @smrracing @syvecs.ltd @ixixiforged @foliekniven @cfi_designs @klasenmotors @turbosmarthq @bartekmotorsport @dodsonmotorsport @radiumengineering @supertechperformance #Halloween #Lamborghini
