NEWS | Salvadoran soldiers have begun patrolling the streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with some residents welcoming their arrival by applauding military convoys passing through their neighborhoods. On October 30, heavily armed Salvadoran troops were seen moving through Tabarre and surrounding areas, including neighborhoods near Toussaint Louverture International Airport. The soldiers traveled in armored vehicles and on foot, with helicopter support. Footage of the patrols has circulated online, including a video shared by El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele. More than 2,000 Salvadoran soldiers have been deployed to Haiti following the disappearance of four Salvadoran aviation technicians during a gang ambush in Croix-des-Bouquets on October 18. Bukele says the operation aims to bring the missing men home and confront armed gangs obstructing the mission. The applause from some residents marks a visible show of support for the troops’ arrival, as Haiti continues to face widespread gang violence and insecurity. However, reactions to the foreign military deployment remain divided, and the response of those welcoming the soldiers does not necessarily represent the views of the wider population β€’ ____ // Combined sources
Before reacting to the Agnipath revision, understand the numbers. Earlier: out of 100 Agniveers, 25 entered regular service after four years and 75 exited with Seva Nidhi. Now, the first 25 still enter on merit. The remaining 75 get an additional two-year engagement. Simple illustration: 100 Agniveers β†’ 25 enter regular service after Year 4 β†’ 10 choose Seva Nidhi β†’ 65 continue for two more years β†’ If 60 meet the criteria at Year 6, then 25 + 60 = 85 can move into regular service. It is not an automatic 85% guarantee. Merit, performance, medical fitness and prescribed standards will still apply. The key change: Agniveers now get a second performance-based pathwayβ€”not simply an exit after four years. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.
