A little surrealism for October for our
#studiorayloves curation this month.
I've always been hooked by the relationship between fine art and the decorative arts, and Jean Cocteau is a particularly wonderful example of the two colliding.
Poet, artist, filmmaker, ceramicist... a man whose imagination seemed entirely unconcerned with the boundaries between disciplines.
It's his expressive linework and wonderfully theatrical approach that I find particularly captivating. The fluidity of a single drawn line, the unexpected forms, the playful relationship between the human figure and the objects around us.
Add to that...I have had these Cocteau wall lights from
@paolomoschinoltd on my wishlist for sometime, and there is currently a sensational collection of limited edition lithograph Cocteau prints available at Paolo Moschino too.
And...cOCTeau and OCTober. Had to do it! 😉
I've gathered a small collection of pieces that speak to those qualities.
A little sculptural drama, some beautiful craftsmanship, and just enough eccentricity to keep things interesting.
