Every government and billionaire with an agenda runs a fake crowd now, for the same reason, to make their side look like it has way more people behind it than it does. Our own Pentagon ran fake accounts in the Philippines during the pandemic telling Filipinos the Chinese vaccine would kill them, because it was the only one they could get and Washington would rather they got nothing than something made in China (people ended up dying because of evil ish like this). For-hire networks that have thousands of fake accounts on X, Instagram, Facebook and Threads has spent two years pushing Netanyahu’s talking points, attacking the UN agency that feeds Gaza and trying to turn Black Americans against Palestinians. And the biggest fake crowd in American politics is X itself, where Elon rewrote the feed so his side gets pushed into your face whether you follow them or not.
