Dahlia virus series: where to get virus-freer stock. If you know a grower who tests their stock or a meristem grower, please drop them in the comments for all of us!

How does one go about testing their stock?

Oh… once in a while very reasonable video regarding viruses! Thank you, it needs to be shared. I test a lot and need to add the following: 1) hybradizer may have sick dahlias, unfortunately, but I agree, it’s lesss common 2) if variety is 3-4 years old, it’s impossible to find clean stock 3) tissue is not an easy solution, sometimes it would require several years to get virus free result (you would need to repeat it several times). 4) TSWV is, unfortunatly, this year much more present in sold dahlias as year before 😬😬😬.

Very good management advice! Creating and maintaining healthy plants is all part of a dynamic management system. All the parts work together to produce a better plant. Testing identifies. Disinfecting holds the line. Pest management stops the spread. And like any dynamic process it takes time. 👏

Interesting. I bought and planted a D. SORENSENII dahlia this year. Never bloomed until a week ago, and the leaves have been very light colored and a bit sickly looking. I’ll have to find out when that particular one was introduced on the market but at this point, I think it’s going into the Trash.
