We want our kids to be taught Islamic and Arabic Studies in Edo schools and be able to wear hijab. The muslims will vote for no other but APC — Edo State Muslim Council tells Gov. Okpebholo Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has received an award for outstanding leadership, Muslim inclusion and representation in governance from the Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs (EDSCIA). The award was presented on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Government House in Benin City. During the event, representatives of the Muslim community raised concerns over the alleged forcing of Muslim students to study Christian Religious Studies (CRS) instead of Islamic Religious Studies (IRS) in some schools. They also appealed for the employment of qualified Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers. “Many of our children are still being forced to do CRS, which is Christian Religious Studies, instead of IRS Islamic Religious Studies.” “But today we want to assure you, sir, that we have over 50 of them who are now qualified to teach Arabic and Islamic Studies. We want to plead, sir, that these people should be absorbed into the system so that our children can have the benefit of being taught their religion,” the representative said. The representative also declared the Muslim community’s support for the APC, saying members were mobilising voters across the state ahead of the 2027 elections. “Your Excellency, we assure you to go and sleep because the Muslim will vote for no other person except APC,” the representative declared. On the issue of hijab, the community urged the governor to ensure that schools comply with the Supreme Court judgment recognising Muslim students’ right to wear the religious garment. “Fortunately, this matter has been resolved at the highest court, and we still find it very absurd that some of our teachers still harass our students in some of our schools. “We want to plead with you, sir, that they will be glad if the law should be obeyed so that at least our students can have the right to do what their other colleagues are doing across the state,” the representative added.
Holiday attire. Give the gift of N°5 THE WINTER CASE. This holiday season, the House’s timeless icon is presented in a case whose graphic design features golden slopes. In a nod to sophisticated ski resort style, the scent’s faceted stopper is dressed in a snow-white winter hat. #CHANELHoliday #CHANELFragrance #GiveYourBestGiveCHANEL
