Congratulations to our doctoral student Leire Escalada-Cebadero on her first first-author publication!
This scoping review, published in the International Journal of Language & Communication Disorders, examines lexico-semantic and morphosyntactic skills in individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD), synthesizing findings from 39 behavioral and neuroimaging studies. The review highlights how language difficulties become more apparent under increased cognitive demands, affecting word retrieval, semantic processing, and comprehension of complex sentences.
Beyond speech and voice impairments, these cognitive-linguistic difficulties can significantly impact everyday communication, social participation, and quality of life. By connecting research findings to clinical practice, this review highlights the need for more comprehensive language assessments and specialized services to better address the complex communication needs of individuals with PD.
