The United States Air Force is mourning the loss of Technical Sergeant Ian Patterson, who tragically died during a pre-game military demonstration at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on October 17.
Patterson, a member of the 6th Combat Training Squadron, was participating in a fast-rope demonstration before a football game between UTSA and the U.S. Naval Academy when he fell from the stadium rafters.
He had dedicated 15 years of his life to serving his country, earning the Air and Space Commendation Medal in recognition of his service.
Brigadier General Scott C. Mills paid tribute, saying Patterson’s service mattered immensely to his wing and to everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
What was intended to be a celebration of military tradition became a heartbreaking loss for his family, fellow airmen and the wider Air Force community.
Today, we remember more than the circumstances of his passing. We remember 15 years of dedication, sacrifice and service to the United States.
Rest in peace, Technical Sergeant Ian Patterson. 🇺🇸
Thank you for your service.
