Mold on musical instruments. Classrooms that reached 90 degrees. 52 facilities grievances filed. One educator said: “Like screaming into a void.”

Dozens of students, educators, and neighbors came to City Hall this week to testify about the state of our school buildings. Students spoke about learning with mold, broken bathrooms, and leaking ceilings. Teachers and @nhft933 members described conditions they have been raising for years. Alders sought answers and deeper transparency. And neighbors made it clear: We have had enough.

Now is the time to bring neighbors across our city together to fix our schools with the urgency and vision our students and educators deserve.

📚 Help a student find their love of reading by volunteering with New Haven Reads!

142 kids are on the waitlist at New Haven Reads — and volunteers signing up could bring the waitlist to zero. Just one hour a week can be the difference between a child knowing how to read and not. You have the power to make that difference!

Sign up to be a volunteer at New Haven Reads with the link in our bio, or www.newhavenreads.org to get the free training you need to share your love of books with a neighbor.

Thrilled to step into a new role as Founding Executive Director of @civicworksct!

I deeply believe in the power of bringing neighbors together to strengthen our community. Excited to work alongside a growing coalition of New Haven neighbors to increase volunteerism, service, and civic engagement (and block parties!).

Join the Civic Works Newsletter to keep in the loop (link in bio).

What supplies do you need to bring your neighbors together?

@civicworksct and @group.project.nhv are partnering on a Community Events Lending Library! Neighbors across New Haven will be able to borrow event supplies, tech, and furniture to host gatherings in their neighborhoods.

We have heard that often not having access to a PA system, tables and chairs, cleanup tools, or other supplies can stand between a great idea and an actual community event. Help us decide what to stock: Fill out the short Lending Library survey (link in our bio) — or also share your ideas in the comments!

Our schools in New Haven opened this year with mold and leaky ceilings. Conditions that no student should be learning in, and no teacher should be working in.

Unfortunately, this isn’t new. We have been raising the alarm on the state of school facilities for months.

Join neighbors on Tuesday, September 29th at 6pm for the Board of Alders Education Committee at City Hall for a public hearing on school buildings. I want you there: Come to testify, listen, share what you’ve seen or experienced.

I believe in a New Haven where every single student walks into a school building that reflects their worth, their potential, and our commitment to who they are. These issues are not minor issues, they are failures that need to be addressed with urgency; not someday — right now.

Let’s pack the bleachers for @wilbur_cross_hs Girls Soccer Senior Night! ⚽️

We believe every high school sports game in this city deserves a packed sideline. Full of neighbors, families, teachers — everyone cheering on our city’s youth! Join us Monday, September 28th at 5pm at Wilbur Cross High School football field to join the community cheering section.

Comment “⚽️” if you’re coming!

Lingerie and elegant tights are a damn good combination, aren’t they? 🌹

Happy 7 years to @do.what_moves.you 🤍✨

Couldn’t help but create a flashback edit of this journey! 🥹

I grew up learning Bharatanatyam from the age of four and for the longest time, that was the only kind of dance form I knew. Even when I danced to western or folk at work events, I was always told I had a “classical touch.” My movements were rigid, my energy was low, I lacked flow and honestly I was hesitant and far from confident.

Then came October 17th 2019, the day I decided to document my dance journey here on Instagram, not knowing where it would take me. I just knew I wanted to get better.

And I kept going. ❤️

Through learning from youtube videos, online classes during the pandemic, countless hours of practice, experimenting with different styles, creating my own choreographies, attending dance workshops, pushing my boundaries and showing up even when progress felt slow.

Somewhere along the way, I found more than just better movement. I found freedom, expression and a confidence I didn’t have when I started.

And this is exactly what @do.what_moves.you has always meant to me. To follow what moves you, keep showing up for it and let it transform you in ways you never imagined.

7 years in. Still learning. Still growing. Still moving. And I am nowhere near done. 🥹❤️🧿 I’m thankful to all my teachers and grateful for all my cheerleaders. 🫂✨
