Saturday saw a collaborative event held by multiple organisations with the Animal Justice Party. During the 24-25 racing year, at least 175 thoroughbred racehorses were killed as a direct result of racing and training across Australia (August 1 to July 31). This equates to 1 horse dying as a result of racing and training every 2 days.
Causes of death include catastrophic limb injury, cardiac events, massive nose and lung bleeds, shoulder injury, pelvis injury, severe lacerations, spinal injuries, aneurysm, skull fractures, and severe neurological injuries from head trauma.
The racing industry has had their goal in action for a few years now to target the younger generations to bring them into the world of gambling to fund the exploitative industry of horse racing, luring them into their web through promises of making a win or securing status. It’s all about profit margins.
It is time to shut this terrible industry down and young people… you can help do this by boycotting ‘going to the races’ and do something else that does not glorify abuse and cruelty. Go to the footy, a music festival, the beach, the cinema…✌️
