Iván Sánchez Zapardiel, a Spanish actor, model, producer and writer whose career has taken him from the international fashion world to film, television and theatre across Europe and Latin America, will publish his new novel DESARRAIGO (that could be translated as THE UPROOTED) with Almuzara in March 2027. 📚

Flora is born in the green, rugged mountains of Serra do Courel, in inland Galicia, Spain, under Franco’s dictatorship. Hassan, a ten-year-old boy, lives with his “abba” on the peaceful shores of the Sea of Galilee, in Palestine under the British Mandate, in the aftermath of the Second World War and at the dawn of the creation of the State of Israel.

THE UPROOTED is the life journey of two souls shaped by their origins and their families; two children forced to persevere in their search for a hopeful future, far from the difficult circumstances into which they were born. It is also a journey into a Palestine in turmoil during the first Nakba in 1948, an ever-present pharaonic Egypt, and a world of archaeology and the search for lost roots—a way of escaping a present that can be brutally harsh and, at times, profoundly dehumanizing. And then there is Paris, a city of seemingly limitless possibilities, where choices are rarely as easy as they first appear.
