Kamakhya Shakti Peeth, Guwahati, ASSAM
✨✨✨
Kamakhya Temple is a major Shakti Peetha located on Nilachal Hill near Guwahati in Assam. It is considered the site where Sati’s yoni fell when Lord Shiva carried her body. The shrine has no idol and instead worships a natural cleft in rock kept moist by a spring, symbolizing divine feminine creative power.
The goddess is revered as the fulfiller of desires and a form of Adi Shakti and Tripura Sundari. Kamakhya is central to Tantrik Shaktism and is the only place housing temples of all ten Mahavidyas, including Kali, Tara, and Bhuvaneswari, around the complex.
Each year, the Ambubachi Mela marks the temple’s three-day closure, believed to be the goddess’s rest period. Devotees pause farming and rituals, then celebrate the reopening as a sign of renewal and creative energy.
