Maybe an ammo capacity limit, and a rack or bottom-tap to reload. Also maybe a pop-solenoid to simulate recoil per shot.

The safety and distance advantage angle is a very fair point to make, but isn't something of the enjoyment of the foam dart machine the fact it actually dispenses a "bullet" projectile. From this distance your solution lacks this tangibility. Do you have a mind to create something that resolves this aspect?

Use a blaster with a higher fps like a harrier or smth ts will hit him from 100 ft and further
