Stem cell therapy and autism. What I wish more parents understood before making this decision.
We pursued stem cell therapy for Thaddeus. And we saw AMAZING gains. Truly incredible progress that gave us so much hope.
But then he got sick. And we watched those gains disappear.
After everything we’ve experienced, I have a very different perspective on the questions families need answered before considering stem cell therapy.
One of the biggest questions is whether autism is the primary diagnosis driving a child’s challenges or whether there are additional, potentially treatable medical conditions contributing to their symptoms.
Conditions like PANS, PANDAS, autoimmune encephalitis, and other causes of immune dysregulation deserve serious consideration, especially when a child has experienced significant regression or sudden changes in functioning.
Because understanding WHY a child is struggling matters just as much as deciding HOW to treat them.
I asked questions. Hundreds of them. I consulted professionals. I trusted that the people treating my child understood the bigger picture.
But the answers didn’t come easily.
It took digging. Research. Persistence. And refusing to accept that every unexplained symptom was simply autism.
What if the question isn’t simply whether stem cell therapy can help your child, but whether you’ve identified the conditions that could be affecting their progress?
I share our experience because I want other parents to know that an autism diagnosis should never close the door to further medical investigation.
Don’t stop asking questions because someone has already given your child a diagnosis.
Ask what else could be happening. Ask about immune dysregulation. Ask whether sudden regression warrants further investigation. Seek specialists who will look beyond a single diagnosis.
Our children deserve individualized care based on their complete medical picture.
And parents deserve real answers before making life-changing decisions.
