Three shortlistings. I’m STILL beaming from ear to ear!

For years I didn’t write at all. Garden design took over, and then, after a while, the commissions stopped coming. So I put my pen down and picked my Vectorworks mouse instead.

But I’ve loved writing since I was a girl, I did English Lit at A level, and I missed the release of it. The sharing too.

So in January 2024, encouraged by my husband, I started a Substack newsletter, just to scratch the itch.

A book followed, and now A Year of Colour is shortlisted for the Peter Seabrook Practical Book of the Year. That book will always remind me of Jules, and our last year spent in our garden together.

Three of my pieces, written for three different publications, see me shortlisted for the Roy Lancaster Features Writer of the Year.

And Is the English Garden a Goner?, my July My Real Gardens Substack piece, is shortlisted for the Beth Chatto Environmental Award.

I mean, my goodness me. Overwhelmed, grateful and proud doesn’t even come close.

Thank you to @gdnmediaguild and the GMG judges. Thank you to @JulieSkeltonPhoto for the photographs and the joy, and to everyone at @franceslincolnpub and @quartobooksuk.

And thank you to all of you who’ve read anything I’ve ever written. These shortlistings are a little bit yours too.

Congratulations to everyone else on the lists, and good luck.

I’ll be raising a toast to you all at the awards on 20th November at The Savoy in London.
