Session Two: Artificial Intelligence, Political Communication and Broadcasting Regulation: Emerging Risks and Regulatory Challenges
Speaker: Mr Odom Diego Okenyodo
In his presentation, Mr Okenyodo highlighted the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in broadcasting, noting that while it offers opportunities for improved content production and audience engagement, it also presents challenges such as deepfakes, misinformation, manipulation of public opinion and potential interference in electoral processes.
He emphasised the responsibility of broadcast stations to ensure that AI-generated content complies with the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and upholds fairness, accuracy, transparency and responsible broadcasting. He urged broadcasters to verify information, identify misleading content and ensure that the use of AI does not undermine public trust or democratic processes.
