This post is a spinoff of the @asindexing “anatomy of an indexer” & it’s kind of a cliché that jiujiteiros — people who practice jiu jitsu — like to philosophize about how it applies to many (or all) aspects of life.
It is true, though. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has a lot of lessons for life, but less commonly known is that it has a lot of parallels with book indexing! 🥷🏼📚
To excel in BJJ, as in book indexing, one should pay close attention to detail, be able to analyze what one is facing, be always ready to learn something new and similarly, have a curious spirit…and perseverance is absolutely crucial in both things. The love of books is a bonus when it comes to BJJ. 📚✨
