A little dancing. A little letting go. And a realization I’m taking with me:
You can spend your whole life trying to be someone nobody has anything to say about… and they’ll still find something.
Be successful, and you think you’re better than everyone.
Struggle, and they knew you couldn’t do it.
Share your happiness, and you want attention.
Keep things private, and you’re hiding something.
Set boundaries, and you’ve changed.
At some point, you have to ask yourself: how much of my life am I willing to miss trying to make everyone comfortable with the way I live it?
How many moments have we held back from enjoying because we were worried about how they would look? How many times have we toned ourselves down, overexplained a decision, or felt the need to prove that we deserved something good?
I’m learning that I don’t want to spend my happiest moments watching myself through someone else’s eyes.
I want to actually be there.
In the room. In the moment. In my own life.
I work hard. I carry responsibilities. I have days when I question myself and nights when my mind won’t slow down. And when there’s an opportunity to laugh, dance, feel beautiful and enjoy the people around me, I want to let myself have it.
Without a disclaimer.
Without earning it all over again.
Without wondering who might misunderstand.
A happy video doesn’t tell you everything someone has been through. Sometimes that smile took a lot to get back. Sometimes being carefree for a few minutes means more than anyone watching could possibly know.
So wear the outfit. Take the trip. Build the business. Leave the table where you keep having to shrink. Give yourself permission to start again, even if people preferred the version of you who never did.
People will have their own version of your story.
You still get to live yours.
And years from now, I want to remember how much I participated in my life. How deeply I loved. How often I laughed. How willing I was to begin again.
I want to remember that when the music came on, I danced. 🤍
