Josepha Hofer had a roughness in her voice, according to the New Grove dictionary, cited by English Wikipedia. The Wien Geschichte Wiki, Vienna's historical encyclopedia, describes her as a singer with a strong, expressive voice and notes that Mozart also composed another aria for her, catalogued as K. 580. And she carried the Queen of the Night into the opera's sequel, Das Labyrinth.

Listen again and notice the start of the video: the same full orchestral block, without voice, comes in suddenly, like a slamming door, and returns two more times in the first few seconds, with the voice between one blow and the next. Just before Pamina appears, the voice drops out for a moment and only the orchestra remains, very softly, as the Queen stays in close-up.

Natalie Dessay first sang the Queen of the Night at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, in a production by Robert Carsen. According to a biography published on the Bach Cantatas website, she hesitated to accept the role because she did not want to play villains, and Carsen convinced her this Queen would be almost Pamina's sister. This video's performance is from 2000, at the Palais Garnier, in Benno Besson's production, according to the upload's credit, and it was in that theater, at the end of that year, that she sang the role for the last time, at 35, the age Mozart was when he wrote the opera. In this production, midway through the excerpt, she pushes Pamina to the ground, and a dry thud sounds at that instant. In the last seconds, no longer singing, she appears with lowered eyes, and only the orchestra goes on.

"They watch us dine on empty plates and drink from empty glasses" 🩸

For Day 8 of Maksoween it is none other than the boys Louis and Lestat from "Interview with The Vampire (1994)". Just the boys being sassy and pouty 🤣
I would say that you can't imagine how much fun we had during this shoot but I think it's obvious, lmaooo. Any time I can turn my dining room into a full-on movie set and I can be an Angsty Boi™ is a good time in my book.

(Day 8/10)

Lestat: @alysontabbitha
Louis: MEEEE
