OPEN STUDIO: KARL LARSSON at POPPS PACKING
Join us Thursday, October 29, from 5–8 PM to celebrate our fall artist-in-residence, Karl Larsson, from Gothenburg, Sweden!
After two months at Popps Packing, Karl will share work made during his residency where he’s been documenting Hamtramck and Detroit through his camera, leading workshops at @booksuey and the Hamtramck Public Library, participating in the Detroit Art Book Fair, and joining us for SoundHenge during the @hamtramckneighborhoodartsfest
We’ve loved having Karl and seeing the curiosity, generosity, and energy he’s brought to his time here.
Karl is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores participation, publishing, archives, and how people influence one another.
PUUT — Publicering & Utlåning is Karl’s ongoing, nomadic artist’s book library and artwork. It grew from Miljonprogrammet (The One Million Project), his photographic archive, which he has been building since 2003 and which now contains over two million images. The library brings together 188 titles and 292 members across 43 countries. Featuring handmade books, PUUT invites members to borrow publications rather than buy them, creating a network for sharing books and ideas.
Come browse the PUUT library (ncluding new books created during the collaborative workshops mentioned above) learn about membership, to the PUUT library have a drink, hang out and hear stories from his adventures in Hamtramck and Detroit. We’d love to see you!
