I used to think a good hook just needed to explain what my post was about.

So I’d write something like:

“5 tips to improve your Instagram carousels.”

Nothing wrong with it.

But WHY would someone stop scrolling for that? 🫠

I was so focused on telling people what I wanted to teach that I forgot to give them a reason to care.

Look at these two:

❌ “5 tips to improve your Instagram carousels.”

✅ “Your carousels get saved… but nobody seems interested in your freebie. What are they missing?”

Now we’re talking about something she’s actually dealing with.

And she’s probably wondering why it’s happening to her. 👀

That’s what I mean when I say a hook needs more than a topic.

And GIRL, I know. The last thing anyone who’s bought 47 carousel templates wants to hear is that there’s ANOTHER thing to learn. 😂

But a template can’t tell you what your reader needs to understand before your offer makes sense.

That’s why I recommend Carousel to Sales. It’s about learning how those pieces connect, not collecting another bunch of slides to fill in.

But before you even look at another resource, I’d start with your own carousel.

Because the hook is only ONE place where people might lose the connection.

Want to see what I look for when checking whether a carousel gives someone a reason to take the next step?

Your content needs to do more than get attention. It needs to build trust, communicate value, and guide people toward a solution. That's why learning digital marketing foundations matters. You need to understand how to build your brand, sell through different content formats, communicate through DMs and emails, and create a rhythm that supports consistent selling. Not just how to make another post.

I’ve rewritten the first slide of my carousel ___ times before finally posting it. 🌝 Please tell me I’m not the only one 😂

Unpopular opinion: “5 tips to improve your content” isn’t a BAD hook. It’s just not giving me a reason to care yet. 😂 Agree or disagree?

What’s harder for you? A) Writing a hook that makes people stop scrolling B) Making the rest of the carousel worth swiping through 👀
