One of Bollywood's catchiest disco songs arguably had even greater success in a completely different country. This is the story of how the song 'Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja' from the soundtrack to the 1982 Bollywood film Disco Dancer (produced by prolific bollywood music producer Bhappi Lahiri) became an unmitigated success in the Soviet Union. It has even been suggested that the song became so integral to Soviet society, a common hit even at weddings, that the song could be used by Soviets as a test of potential foreign spies, to see if someone truly grew up in the USSR. Whether this was truly done or is simply an urban legend, it's amazing how popular an indian movie's climactic dance song became in an entitely different country, language and culture. A special shout out to my friends at the @therevolverclub for finding me this copy of the soundtrack on vinyl! Be sure to listen out for it in my upcoming sets 🤙 [ Disco, Music History, Vinyl Records, India, Bollywood, Soviet Union, Movie History ]

Happy heavenly birthday, Michael. You’ll always be our Pa. 🤍 Today would have been Michael Landon’s 90th birthday, and we keep coming back to this screen test from over 50 years ago. Perhaps it’s your first time seeing it. Perhaps, like us, it gets you every time. Before there was a show, that connection was already there. Neither could have known how many hearts they’d touch—or how, decades after saying goodbye to Michael, we’d still feel so close to Pa. What a beautiful thing, to leave behind a story that still brings us together. 💛 @melissagilbertofficial #littlehouseontheprairie #lhotp #legacy #birthday #michaellandon
